Consciousness Unplugged: Tom Campbell Answers All—Live with Jeffrey Mishlove and Emmy Vadnais

Jeffrey Mishlove’s YouTube channel New Thinking Allowed recently featured a fascinating seven-part series of interviews with physicist and consciousness researcher Tom Campbell, author of My Big TOE (Theory of Everything). While Campbell has appeared in many interviews in recent years, Mishlove’s conversations stand out for their depth, nuance, and thoughtful pacing. The first four videos provide a deep dive into Campbell’s story, while the following three address thoughtful audience questions.
This review focuses on the fifth video in the series, Bring Your Toughest Questions to Tom Campbell.

Bring Your Toughest Questions to Tom Campbell is a live-streamed video event where physicist and consciousness researcher Tom Campbell, author of the trilogy “My Big TOE,” answers challenging questions from viewers with hosts Jeffrey Mishlove and Emmy Vadnais.
Across the live stream, Campbell revisits core MBT themes: reality as an information-based, multiplayer virtual environment; consciousness as fundamental; and personal growth as reducing fear, ego, and beliefs while increasing the quality of our intent (becoming “more love”). Audience questions push into practical territory—how fear shows up, whether mass consensus shapes “the rendering,” ethics around money and ambition, and perennial psi topics like remote viewing, healing, synchronicity, and afterlife databases.
Memorable quotes from this video.
Tom starts life very right brained.
(~3:40)
So Tom before we came on we were talking about how some people get into the consciousness field through the dark night of the soul and you said that wasn’t exactly what happened for you how did how did it happen for you. I was born that way I came into this world very uh right brained intuitive i knew what my parents were thinking i remember the process of being toilet trained my mother getting very frustrated and exasperated with me because I was a difficult case and I changed how I uh you know I worked harder on that just because I knew that it bothered her so I was aware of things uh very early even as a you know an infant but as I grew up I was uh my intuition stayed uh my it’s a story I tell that I have a sister two years older than me and when we would take long trips with my parents like vacations that would take maybe five six 10 hours to get there you know how children are about 15 minutes into the trip it’s are we there yet are we there yet and uh I wasn’t one of those children i would uh kind of close my eyes and start chanting very silently very well very quietly to myself and I disappear and then when we arrived I’d wake up and felt like it maybe it was 10 or 15 minutes had gone by to my sister’s uh aggravation because I was the only one that she had to play with and I was sitting over there asleep what everybody thought but u I was just in other places just uh not conscious in this reality for that time so I I was born very right brained but I knew at the same time that I had to become very left brained and that I needed to work on that and develop those left brain skills during this lifetime so I always realised that I was going to be in a technical field of some sort i didn’t know what by the time I got to college I had reduced it down to physics or chemistry and then I picked physics so I uh struggled with mathematics which is very logical a lot of all logical process but once I finally got it then the math became easy and I adapted to it and understood it generally pretty quickly but it took a while it wasn’t a it wasn’t a quick thing so I had you know I had a different kind of uh coming to the to the consciousness study i had beans come to me when I was like six seven years old helped me get out of body and put me in training courses so I spent about a year every single night going off and being trained and exercised and doing various things in a non-physical and then after that year was up they closed the door and said “We don’t want you to be too weird so we’re we’re shutting this off.” And wasn’t until when I was late 20s that uh I got with Bob Monroe at Whistlefield Farms that was before there was a TMI and uh after about a year there or so it all came flooding back to me so I am extremely right brained and extremely left brained both at the same time.
Develop your intuition.
(~26:53)
follow up where do you think the role of intuition is with working with AI for people who are the user of AI who are are in partnership as you say with the AI well for the for the human anyway intuition needs to become one of the more used tools in your toolkit we humans need to develop our intuition we need to develop that right side of our brain we need to um learn how to do that and it’s like anything else it takes time to learn and you only learn with practice you have to work at it and practice it and it isn’t true it’s like everybody could become a concert pianist but very few people do because it’s a lot of work and you have to really want to do that in order to become it well it’s sort of like that now you know we have to step up our game and become more because we have an AI to help us.
Freshman can now work at Graduate level.
(~28:49)
instead of the instructor saying “Yeah write this term paper and here’s the number of words and this and that all that’s irrelevant,” they’re going to have to actually say “We we need some original thinking here we need you to come up with some ideas and concepts and and ways of putting things together from the various authors or philosophers or whatever your subject is that actually adds something you know to what’s going on.” Now that used to be graduate level right that’s what graduate students do they have to come up with some original ideas well let’s start that process when they’re freshman you know let’s try to to encourage them to think and to come up with something better because they have an AI that can help them out and okay the term paper will be in perfect grammar and there’ll be no misspelled words yay that’s like saying well all the calculations will be accurate because the person used a calculator you know it’s you start to let that go before the whole grading process was on how many errors did you make well that’s not a good way to grade a paper how significant was the paper how much thinking did you do what’s the quality of the writing was it done with a 200word vocabulary or is it better than that you see so you really look at the quality of it.
Consciousness is Fundamental.
(~40:45)
does anything exist besides consciousness and perception in consciousness? Well kind of depends on how you use the term exist but from the highest viewpoint of that you know looking at it from the from the the kind of the highest level of thinking I would say no consciousness is fundamental that’s that’s it that’s the one thing that’s fundamental everything else is a derivative of consciousness.
Placebo effect.
(~50:06)
one of the ways that consciousness works is that our own intentions our thoughts modify the probabilities in that future probable database what we think what we intend that modifies those probabilities that’s how the placebo effect works the placebo works effect works by if you tell someone that they’re going to get better if they take this pill well they do get better and not just think they’re better but they really are better you know it’s a real effect that’s because now they’re thinking that they’ll be better that shifts the probabilities in this database and it’s these probabilities that eventually drive what happens here in our virtual reality okay that’s how the that’s how what happens next is produced in this virtual reality is it takes a random draw from a probability distribution of the possibilities so it’s this this probability distribution of the possibilities is what you change with your intent that’s how you heal it’s the same way you can heal by using your intent to modify future probability it’s just a part of the way consciousness works.
Be in the reality you are presented with.
(~54:33)
With the current paradigm of creating your own reality how can we be more aligned with our higher self uh creating your own reality well actually it’s better not to worry too much about creating your own reality it’s better just to live the one that comes to you moment by moment uh if you try to control your reality because you want it to be more the way you want it that typically just gets in your way and makes things less optimized i I learned a long time ago that if you don’t try to manipulate or change anything the system just optimizes itself automatically and I you know I learned that and one day realized that even if I were really really good and understood everything if I tried to manipulate it it would turn out worse than if I just let it alone so you you learn just to let it go because it actually comes out better that way so that’s one aspect of you know what what they’re saying.
Energy is really intention.
(~1:10:44)
asking what are your thoughts about chi or prana well that’s an energy a name for energy and there really is no such thing as energy you have to realize that this is a this is a virtual reality okay now in a virtual reality you modify future probabilities so energy we define as as something that changes something else if you have energy energy gives you the ability to move something change something set something on fire make something hot or cold or energy is our is our word to say that it can affect something well all of that energy is really mind all that energy is really based in consciousness now you can have a a set of know tools you have a tool set where you focus it and it comes out through your you know like your solar plexus and that way you can focus it so your energy comes out through the palms of your hands and you put them on people and they can feel the heat or you can I’ve seen a guy uh you know start a fire get a some paper together fire starts up or take a pencil and stick it through a table and there’s all sorts of things you can do and that’s basically changing something it’s affecting something the pencil goes through the table the fire starts so we call that energy and we name it chi.
Beware of creating a Bubble of only good things, = No more learning.
(~1:15:04)
People can do those things just like they find out oh yeah remote viewing is a real thing people can do those things it cracks your mind open a little bit all of those quote paranormal things are there for cracking people’s minds open so they can see reality as different than just the physical thing that their science tells you about so that’s why they happen that’s why they’re there that’s why they come out of the closet every once in a while but mostly the people who are good at doing those things don’t do them and that’s true about all the paranormal things the people who are really good at getting data out of those databases generally don’t because what happens if you do is you create a kind of a a bubble around yourself where now nothing bad happens to you only good things happen to you and things kind of fall your way and you’re very lucky because you’re using your mind to to make probabilities come out the way you like them for you and you have your picnic it’s all the sun always shines even if it’s raining everywhere else your picnic has sunshine so you do that and now you’ve put yourself in a bubble that eliminates all of your challenges and guess what you stop growing up so when you really get to where you master those things then you give them up because you realize they’re not useful it was useful to learn them because that helped you practice and focus your mind but once you mastered them they really don’t have any purpose anymore.
Different Healing modalities are just different tools to help focus your intention.
(~1:28:52)
So it doesn’t matter the the system will work with you just as well it’s intent that makes the difference the the tools that you use to help your mind focus on that intent are just tools they’re not fundamental there is no light just like there is no energy there’s only intention it’s all consciousness it’s all mind the only actual active ingredient is intention it’s it’s it’s mind it’s consciousness is the only active ingredient so it’s um you know the the chakras are a tool set in the healing if I just told you that well all you have to do is just snap your fingers and say heal and it’ll be done that’s all just have to focus your mind and heal well that’ll work for some people but not many many people say well that can’t work you can’t snap your fingers and have anything happen and because they believe it it can’t work then of course it won’t work because they can’t focus their energy around that concept but if you tell them that black spot is a problem and you need to get rid of that black spot and here you can use this energy bar tool or you can take a vacuum cleaner and vacuum it up or you can put acid on it and burn it away or you can take your blow torch and melt it then you can take all the black stuff and stick it in a jar and throw the jar into the sun now these are all tool sets that you can use to help you focus your intent on what you’re intending to happen your intention of the end result your intention of how that result is going to work out and they help you because people humans consciousness that are that are being the players of those humans can’t deal with things that are very abstract they need to do something they can’t just will it to happen because nobody would believe that that’s possible so we give people tools we give them lights we give them you know all sorts of things we give them chakras we give them all these tool sets and that helps them but really all that’s doing is helping them focus their intent to make a difference to grow so they focus that intent on their crown chakra and it’s going to make them more spiritual well no they’re focusing their intent on becoming more spiritual their tool is to work on that crown chakra you see so your your intention consciousness is the only active ingredient everything else is a tool set so you just tools are nice but they should be efficient if your tool is very complicated then you waste more time dealing with the tool your tool can be very simple and it just has to be something that you can relate to in a very sincere and powerful way that’s why there’s 50 different kinds of healing modalities out there if you look alternative healing you’ll find there’s all kinds of things with all sorts of different names and they all work but some of them work better for some people and others work better for other people because this methodology and these tools just aren’t they don’t really fit some people the people they do fit they work well and these other thing well those people those tools fit them better because of their personality because of their history whatever so again there’s only one core thing that’s happening but there’s a thousand different ways that you can get there.
Why are Tom’s answers always so long?
(~1:3 3:41)
Tom Campbell has never uttered a short answer all of my answers tend to be kind of lengthy because I’m really trying to produce understanding not just sound bites so I don’t do sound bites i don’t give the three minute answer or even the 10-minute answer i tend to give the 15 20 minute answers half hour answers but that’s just the way I function because I really want you to understand not just walk away with a sound bite and say “Oh wow that sounded cool.” You know I want you to understand how it really works and it’s hard for me to do that unless you actually have read the books and know the theory because I use terms and words that I have there and I’m using those and I know everybody doesn’t understand them.
Bring Your Toughest Questions to Tom Campbell offers a fascinating deep dive into one of the most ambitious theories of consciousness and reality currently available. While Campbell’s model remains speculative and controversial from a mainstream scientific perspective, it represents a serious attempt to integrate diverse domains of knowledge into a coherent whole. The question-and-answer format provides unique insights into how Campbell’s theories apply to practical concerns, bridging the gap between abstract metaphysics and daily life.
